A business meeting was held at ECCMID/ICC 2011 in Milan, Italy on 9th May at which the structure, function and future plans for the study group were discussed. The main outcomes were
- The executive committee consisting of G. Stanek (chair), K-P Hunfeld (treasurer) and R. Dessau (secretary) were confirmed in their posts for the next two years.
- Recruitment and membership will be based on the completion and circulation of a form which will be possible to download from the website. In the meantime some colleagues will be invited to join the study group by the executive committee.
- A meeting to establish working groups within ESGBOR that will address diagnosis, pathogenicity, treatment, epidemiology and ecology will take place in November 2011 in Vienna, Austria.
- A proposal for a symposium on Lyme borreliosis at the ECCMID 2012 in London, UK, was submitted.
New ESCMID Study Group
ESGBOR is a newly formed ESCMID Study Group, which starts its activities in the field of Lyme Borreliosis. The constitutional meeting was held during the 12th International Conference on Lyme Borreliosis and other Tick-Borne Diseases, 28 September 2010 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Planned Activities
- continue to maintain the EUCALB website as an information resource, with full acknowledgment of ESCMID
- organise periodic meetings/workshops in collaboration with other ESCMID study groups to address diagnostic and treatment issues.
- promote specific collaborative research following the networking rationale of the EUCALB project
- meet periodically to review and publish recommendations for the management of Lyme Borreliosis
