Colistin Global Survey

The ESGAP Executive Committee supported and recommended the following survey (closed end of 2011):

Dear ESGAP members:

Severe multi-drug resistant Gram-negative infections are becoming more common worldwide. These bacteria are often still sensitive to the older antibiotics colistin or polymyxin B. These drugs are now being used more commonly. Unfortunately, little is known about how these drugs are dosed optimally and with what other drugs to combine them.

Dr Heiman Wertheim - from Oxford University, Hanoi, Viet Nam, one very active member of our ISC Antimicrobial Stewardship working group (ISC ABS WG) -, has organized - in collaboration with ReAct, GARP and the ISC ABS WG - an international survey to know more about colistin and polymixin B utilisation. We are now inviting ESGAP to be an active collaborator to keep on with this global initiative.

Taking into account the high impact of MDR Gram-negative rods, and that these drugs are in a great majority of cases the only option for treatment, we would really appreciate both your participation and your collaboration in disseminating this global survey.

For questions or comments, please contact Dr Heiman Wertheim, University of Oxford

ABC-Calc 2011: A new version of ABC-Calc has been developed and is being piloted before it is finally launched.

This version is a completely new implementation of the tool. It has been transformed into a standalone application (it is not any more a excel file). The new functionalities are the possibility to read an excel file in input, in addition to enter data manually and to export the results into an excel file. The scope of the antimicrobials managed by ABC-Calc has been extended to, notably, antimycotics and antivirals. The tool is developed in java and is multi platform.
We invite ESGAP members to test the new version.

Please contact Arno Muller and he will e-mail instructions to download and use the new version.
