Training fellowships 2009
Are you still in training as an infection specialist and on the move? Apply for an ESCMID fellowships to young members for advanced training in a clinical or research unit abroad.
Purpose
These fellowships support young scientists or physicians working in clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases in their effort to acquire scientific, technical or clinical expertise not available in institutions in their country of residence.
Funding
The maximum amount provided per fellowship is EUR 9'600 (max. EUR 600 for travel support plus max. EUR 1'500 per month for up to 6 months for subsistence).
Eligibility criteria
Training may take place in a research laboratory, a clinical department or a public health institution. It can consist of experimental, clinical or other work. For members from outside Europe, training must be carried out in Europe. For European members it may be carried out anywhere.
Applicants must be ESCMID members in good standing and should be born on or after 1 January 1969. Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are ineligible.
Application procedure
The deadline for submission is 1 November 2008.
Please submit seven copies of your application including:
- CV with name, telephone and fax numbers, professional affiliation, experience and expertise
- List of publications
- Rationale for choosing the host institution, objectives of the training requested
- Time table, including start and end date of training (actual presence in the host institution)
- Confirmation letter on original letterhead duly signed by the head of the unit where the training is to take place
- and one colour photo as tiff, eps or jpg file at least 4x6 cm with 300 dpi resolution.
The ESCMID Awards Subcommittee will select the fellows. Applicants will be notified of the decision by 28 February 2009 at the latest. Please refrain from inquiring on the status of your application before this date.
Report
The names of successful applicants and places of foreign training will be published in ESCMID News and on the ESCMID website.
The fellow must submit a two-page report to ESCMID upon completion of the training.
