Training fellowships 2010

The deadline to apply for 2010 has expired. We will be accepting applications again in Summer 2010 for 2011.

Purpose

These fellowships support young scientists or physicians working in clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases in their effort to acquire scientific, technical or clinical expertise not available in institutions in their country of residence.

Funding

The maximum amount provided per fellowship is EUR 9'600 (max. EUR 600 for travel support plus max. EUR 1'500 per month for up to 6 months for subsistence).

Eligibility criteria

Training may take place in a research laboratory, a clinical department or a public health institution. It can consist of experimental, clinical or other work. For members from outside Europe, training must be carried out in Europe. For European members it may be carried out anywhere.

Applicants must be ESCMID members in good standing and should be born on or after 1 January 1969. Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are ineligible.

What you need to apply

When submitting online, please have the following documentation ready.

  • PDF-Document (Surname.pdf max 4MB) with: rationale for choosing the host institution; objectives of the training requested; time table incl. start and end date of training (actual presence in the host institute); CV; list of publications
  • Scanned file (Surname_confirmation.pdf max 4MB) of confirmation letter on original letterhead duly signed by the head of the unit where the training is to take place. The original must be submitted by surface mail.
  • A colour photograph as (Surname_Firstname.tiff, .eps or .jpg max 4MB) file at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution

Report

The names of successful applicants and places of foreign training will be published in the ESCMID Yearbook and on the ESCMID website.

The fellow must submit a two-page report to ESCMID upon completion of the training.

The ESCMID Awards Subcommittee will select the project(s) and determine appropriate grant support. Applicants will be notified of the decision by 31 January 2010 at the latest. Please refrain from inquiring on the status of your application before this date.
