Course Objectives
  • Explain the current process of EUCAST breakpoint definition, understand the rationale for EUCAST breakpoints and explain implementation of EUCAST breakpoints
  • Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing by dilution, diffusion and automatic techniques, with a EUCAST perspective and explain differences from the CLSI approach
  • Understand the application of EUCAST expert rules for antimicrobial susceptibility testing
  • Explain antimicrobial surveillance systems (public versus private) and benefits for establishment of antimicrobial guidelines and the design of antibiotic policies
  • Understand the importance of breakpoints in antimicrobial resistance surveillance systems
  • Understand how ECOFFs are determined

Target Audience

30 – 35 clinical microbiologists with an interest in antimicrobial susceptibility testing and surveillance. Representatives from National Antimicrobial Committees will have preference over other applicants for participation in this PGEC

Registration Fee

EUR 500 for ESCMID members

EUR 800 for all others

The fee includes the laboratory materials and protocols, lunch at the university and social events, but not travel or accommodation costs.

 

Posters

Attendants will be requested to present a poster, covering a topic of antimicrobial resistance surveillance form their own country. (Further information will be provide during the selection process.)

 

Attendance Grants

ESCMID provides a number of attendance grants for young attendees (40 years or younger) covering the registration fee, but no travel or accommodation costs. Please submit your application until 15 July 2012 online on this website (follow the link on the right). If there are more applicants than available grants, preference will be given to ESCMID members. Applicants will be informed about their acceptance by 31 July 2012.

Please note that attendance grant application does not include registration for the course. Please register separately with the form supplied on the right.
