Young Investigator Awards for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases
In 2012, ESCMID will again sponsor up to two ESCMID Young Investigator Awards for Research in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases to recognise outstanding research by younger colleagues in these fields.
The deadline to nominate candidates for 2012 has expired. We will be accepting nominations again in July 2012 for 2013.
Purpose
The Young Investigator Award acknowledges excellence in research, and stimulates further research of the highest scientific level. The award will be presented by the Chair of the ESCMID Awards Subcommittee at the 22nd ECCMID in London.
Eligibility criteria
Nominees for the award should be born on or after 1 January 1972. Appropriate research may be based on laboratory investigations, clinical studies, experimental animal studies, or a combination thereof. Nominees must be employed (or have been until recently) in a European laboratory or hospital. Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are ineligible. Self-applications are not accepted.
What you need for the nomination
ESCMID goes green! All documentation is to be submitted electronically and no hard copies are required. When submitting, please have the following documentation ready and make sure you have uploaded the correct documents. After the deadline, you cannot make changes to any part of your nomination.
- PDF-Document (Nominee_Surname.pdf max 4MB) with: 1) CV and proof of the nominee's age; 2) Complete list of publications as well as up to five original papers published in the last 3 years or accepted for publication; 3) description of the candidate, her/his career, her/his research interests and personal contributions to the various research projects she or he has been participating in
- Scan files (Supporter1Surname_support1.pdf max 4MB and Supporter2Surname_support2.pdf max 4MB) Two letters of support from individuals outside the nominating institution.
- A colour photograph as (Nominee_Surname_Firstname.tiff, .eps or .jpg max 4MB) file at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution for publication.
Presentation and announcement of the award
During the 22nd ECCMID, the Young Investigator Awardees will be honoured on the occasion of a 20-min lecture each awardee will be asked to give on topics of her/his main field of research. Their names will be published in the Final Programme, the ESCMID Yearbook and on the ESCMID website.
The Young Investigator Awardees are also given the option to write a review paper reflecting their field(s) of research for publication in Clinical Microbiology and Infection (CMI).

The nomination deadline is 10 November 2011, 18.00h CET.
The ESCMID Awards Subcommittee will select the awardees who will be notified of the decision by the end of February 2012 at the latest. Please refrain from inquiring on the status of your nomination before this date. Self-applications will not be considered.
