Purpose
These grants are exclusively available for official Study Group research projects in the fields of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases.
Eligibility criteria
The research project may be based on laboratory investigations, clinical studies, experimental animal studies, or a combination of these. Research must be carried out in Europe and as a collaborative project involving at least two separate institutions in two different countries. Applications will be peer-reviewed and the best projects will be selected based on the application and research proposal (for details see next paragraph).
Applicants must be principal investigators for the proposed research. The Study Group(s) involved must display full support of this proposal by written approval by the Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer of the respective Study Group(s). The applicants must be ESCMID members in good standing. Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are ineligible.
Proposals can be submitted and will be assessed throughout the year.
What you need to apply
When submitting online, please have the following documentation ready.
- PDF-Document (Surname_StudyGroup.pdf max 4MB) with: summary of your research project (1 page); introduction (objectives, background, rationale or purpose of the project); research plan (incl. design, material & methods, data analysis); personnel and co-investigators (at least one additional institution from a country different than yours); budget (personnel, equipment, consumables); description of your present research; CV; list of publications
- Scanned file(s) (Surname_support.pdf max 4MB) of supporting letter(s) of the Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer of the Study Group(s) involved in this proposal.
- A colour photograph as (Surname_Firstname.tiff, .eps or .jpg max 4MB) file at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution for publication
Report
The grantee must together with the Study Group(s) submit a two-page report to ESCMID upon completion of the research project. It should include:
- A short introduction summarizing current knowledge for the non-specialist
- The study hypothesis
- The main findings
- Conclusions from the investigation.
This will be published on the ESCMID website.
