Research grants 2012

These grants help young and excellent investigators to pursue groundbreaking research in the fields of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases.

The application period for 2012 closed on 10 November 2011, 18.00h CET. We will be accepting applications again starting July 2012 for 2013.

Funding

The maximum amount granted per project is EUR 20000. This includes any potential overhead costs charged by your institution.

Eligibility criteria

The research project may be based on laboratory investigations, clinical studies, experimental animal studies, or a combination of these. Research must be carried out in Europe. Applications will be peer-reviewed and the best projects will be selected based on the application and research proposal (see application procedure).

Applicants must be principal investigators for the proposed research. They must be full ESCMID members in good standing and should be born on or after 1 January 1972. Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee are ineligible.

What you need to apply

ESCMID goes green! All documentation is to be submitted electronically and no hard copies are required. When submitting, please have the following documentation ready. Also make sure you have uploaded the correct documents. After the deadline, you cannot make changes to any part of your application.

  • PDF-Document (Surname.pdf max 4MB) with: summary of your research project (summary length from 1 paragraph to 1 page); introduction (objectives, background, rationale or purpose of the project); research plan (incl. design, material & methods, data analysis); personnel and co-investigators; budget (personnel, equipment, consumables); description of your present research; CV; list of publications
  • Scanned files (Surname_support1.pdf max 4MB and Surname_support2.pdf max 4MB) of 2 supporting letters.
  • A colour photograph as (Surname_Firstname.tiff, .eps or .jpg max 4MB) file at least 4 x 6 cm with 300 dpi resolution for publication

Frequently asked questions about the grants - FAQ

Report

The grantee must submit a two-page report to ESCMID upon completion of the research project. It should include:

  • A short introduction summarizing current knowledge for the non-specialist
  • The study hypothesis
  • The main findings
  • Conclusions from the investigation.

Application procedure

The deadline for submission is 10 November 2011, 18.00h CET.

The ESCMID Awards Subcommittee will select the project(s) and determine appropriate grant support. Applicants will be notified of the decision by the end of February 2012 at the latest. Please refrain from inquiring on the status of your application before this date.
