	Observership programme up and running - 8 reports online In 2009 the first eight Observers visited other institutions for academic exchange. Read about their experiences at the ESCMID Collaborative Centres.

	Just published - EUCAST disk diffusion antimicrobial susceptibility test This European disk diffusion antimicrobial susceptibility test is calibrated to EUCAST clinical MIC breakpoints. New breakpoint tables and technical descriptions of method, including tables of QC targets, are now available on the EUCAST website.

	Late Breaker abstract deadline for ECCMID 2010 New, outstanding and cutting-edge information that was not known or available before the general abstract submission deadline can be submitted up to 8 March 2010. A very limited number of abstracts will be accepted in this category.

	Back to school - ESCMID Summer School registration open Plan to join us in Cappadocia, Turkey from 3 to 9 July 2010. We have an exciting interactive programme lined up covering diverse topics in CM/ID as well as career advice. Especially tailored to young MDs and scientists!

	Federation of medical societies kick-off in Stockholm In early December 2009 an inaugural meeting of a European federation of medical researchers was launched. Representatives from about thirty societies from a wide range of medical fields participated.
