As influenza cases rise in Europe, experts urge uptake of H1N1 vaccine

Whilst rates of influenza, particularly the new H1N1 strain, increase in intensity and geographical spread across Europe, the roll out of the vaccination campaigns is receiving mixed levels of uptake and opposition from anti-vaccine campaigners that puts at risk public health and lives. Read more in the press release.

Transantlantic task force on antibiotic resistance

ESCMID and IDSA applaud US-President Barack Obama and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, representing the European Union (EU) Presidency, for establishing a transatlantic task force to address antibiotic resistance, an urgent and growing worldwide problem. Read more in the press release.

Register for ECCMID Vienna by 16 December 2009 and save

Over 3000 abstracts were submitted for the 2010 ECCMID. Plan your trip to Vienna now to get the latest information in the infection fields. New strains, tougher gains

Europe is not immune to the growing global threat that can be posed by an isolated outbreak of an infectious disease in a seemingly remote part of the world, and therefore needs to be prepared to prevent, control and treat emerging, and re-emerging, infectious diseases. Read Giuseppe Cornaglia's editorial in the EU Public Health Services review.

New presentations online from ESCMID conference
